Match 1 vs Stowmarket
Result: Sussex Dolphins lost to Stwowmarket: 3-0 (13-25, 19-25, 22-25)
Dolphins started off on the wrong foot and were overwhelmed by Stowmarket's power and accuracy of their hitting, the first set was 25-13. By the end of the set there was a slight improvement by Dolphins with a return from injury from star player John Burlet who proved that, with Marian Jura, the middle was strong and started to cause the Stowmarket defence some problems. However, Stowmarket took the second set 25-19.
The 3rd followed the same route as the 2nd - Dolphins started to get the run of play and cause Stowmarket problems through all positions primarily through the middle and outside positions. This ended up being a very close match but Dolphins losing out 25-22 and losing 3-0 overall.
Player of the match: John Burlet
Match 2 vs vs Newmarket
Result: Sussex Dolphins beat Newmarket: 3-2 (25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 18-25, 15-12)
Compared to the first match this was a totally different Dolphins team that took to the court. With Alex Caulkett playing his first National league match, and all the players receiving a dressing down by Captain Gary Hill during the rest period, the team started to perform with good attacking options from setter Gary Hill and some awesome defensive work from Matt Rogers. The team started to click, taking the 1st set 25-23, but as with all Dolphins teams they had a lapse in the second set. Were it not for some outstanding hitting from Stefan Nordt and Vladimir Sipula the result would have been worse with Newmarket running out 25-20 winners.
The next 2 sets swung either way with Dolphins taking the next set 25-22 and then Newmarket taking the 4th set 25-18, this was where the Dolphins needed to settle their nerves and with the morale boosting talk from coach Joey Phillippo-Nevill, Dolphins started off well with good all round cover and some excellent hitting from all players, this enabled them to get a good lead which in the end let the Sussex Dolphins run out 15-12 winners and therefore take the match 3-2.
